Harford, P.C. has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a tenant at the Clason Point Gardens Housing complex in the Bronx for exposure to Legionella bacteria at the New York City Housing Authority (“NYCHA”) facility. The tenant is adult resident who has lived in the complex for over fifty (50) years. She suffered severe damages requiring emergency treatment at Montefiore Hospital followed by extensive rehabilitation.
Clason Point is a forty-six (46) row housing development located in the Soundview section of the Bronx, New York. It was the first NYCHA development in the Bronx and has been the subject of maintaining deplorable conditions for its residents, including roofs littered with holes from raccoons and squirrels, mold, cracked sidewalks, and general disrepair throughout the complex.
In June 2022, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene released a statement that the water distribution system at Clason Point tested positive for Legionella bacteria. It identified two residents who lived at the facility who were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. The notice advised residents to avoid taking showers and to run any water slowly to avoid mist.
The case was filed today in the New York Supreme Court, County of Bronx against the New York City Housing Authority. Harford, P.C. is co-counsel on the case with the Minneapolis based litigation law firm Siegel Brill, P.A.
Harford, P.C. currently represents clients that developed Legionnaires’ disease from Harlem Hospital, Massapequa Center Rehabilitation and Nursing, the South Bronx outbreak, the Sugar Hill outbreak in upper Manhattan, Co-Op City, a financial district residential building, and multiple apartment complexes in New Jersey.
