Another food poisoning outbreak has taken hold within the states of New York and New Jersey. This time arising from Boar’s Head deli meats.
Boar’s Head issued an initial recall in late July after Maryland and New York health officials detected listeria bacteria in its liverwurst products. Just a few days later, the company expanded the recall to include over 70 products made in its Jarratt, Virginia plant. The meat was distributed to stores nationwide and includes liverwurst, ham, salami and bologna.
At this point, over 40 people have gotten sick from the deli meats and three them died—one in New Jersey, one in Illinois, and one in Viriginia. Unlike other germs, listeria bacteria survive and even grow during refrigeration. It is crucial that consumers throw away the recalled products or return them for a refund.
It can take weeks for symptoms of a listeria infection to appear. It is considered a serious condition and can be dangerous or life-threatening, especially to elderly adults or people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, fatigue and possible death.
Harford, P.C. is anticipating numerous filings against Boar’s Head for allowing this listeria outbreak to occur and harming people. If you or someone you know has been affected by the Boar’s Head recall, please call Scott Harford at (212) 390-8983 or e-mail at scott.harford@harford-law.com.
