Harford, P.C. Investigating Claims on Behalf of Farmingdale High School Teachers and Students Injured from Fatal Bus Crash in Wawayanda, New York

Harford, P.C. is currently investigating claims among the injured from a fatal bus crash in upstate New York on September 21, 2023.  The bus was carrying more than 40 students and teachers from Farmingdale, New York.

The bus careened off the highway on Interstate 84 in the town of Wawayanda while transporting the high school marching band to an event.  There were multiple hospitalizations, five students left in critical conditions, and two teachers who died.

The company that owned the bus—Regency Transportation LTD—had been cited for some 25 violations since 2021, including five failed inspections in 2023, defective bus emergency exits, inoperable brake lamps, inoperable headlamps, and oil and grease leaks.  In addition to lawsuits filed against Regency Transportation LTS, municipal claims have been filed against the Farmingdale school district for negligently hiring the bus company to transport its students.

Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed the deaths and described the event as “a day of terror” for the students and teachers involved in the crash.
