The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (the “DOH”) just announced this past weekend a “community cluster of Legionnaires’ disease in the Highbridge neighborhood in the Bronx and bordering communities.” According to information released by the DOH, four people in the Highbridge neighborhood have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. More people are expected to be identified within this cluster of cases.
The DOH said it is investigating and “sampling and testing water from all cooling tower systems in the area of the cluster.” People in the area with flu-like symptoms, cough, fever or difficulty breathing are being urged to contact a physician.
