As just reported today, a fourth person has died from an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in upstate New York. Last week, the Albany County Department of Health (“DOH”) announced ten people who tested positive for the disease at Peregrine Senior Living at Shaker, located in Albany, New York.
Water restrictions are now in place at the facility, but not before more than 20 people have been reportedly hospitalized. According to a statement from the DOH, the “total number of people that had been hospitalized in association with this outbreak since the start is 25.”
The DOH has taken water samples from Peregrine and done testing on the extent of the proliferation of legionella bacteria in the water. Peregrine has installed water filters so that some of its showers and bathrooms are available for use.
Harford, P.C. already represents clients that developed Legionnaires’ disease from the South Bronx Opera Hotal outbreak, the Sugar Hill outbreak in upper Manhattan, Co-Op City, a financial district residential building, NYCHA residential facilities, and multiple apartment complexes in New Jersey.
